Mains, marketers and no-gas streets

One local distribution company (LDC) owns the gas mains at any address that has them. Atmos across much of Texas and the South, CenterPoint around Houston and Minneapolis, Southwest Gas in the desert Southwest, Peoples Gas in Florida and Chicago. Unlike electricity, plenty of streets simply have no mains: newer subdivisions, rural areas and much of New England run on electric heat, propane or oil instead.

A few states add a choice layer: in Georgia's deregulated market you pick a gas marketer while Atlanta Gas Light delivers; Ohio offers supplier choice on top of Columbia Gas and Enbridge. The lookup shows your LDC and whether choice applies.

Gas questions, answered

What gas company services my address?

Run the lookup. It names your local gas utility with a start-service link, or tells you the address has no gas service so you can plan for electric, propane or oil.

Does my address have natural gas?

Not every street does. Gas mains skip many neighborhoods entirely. The lookup checks your specific address rather than assuming from the city.

Can I choose my gas company?

In most states no. The LDC at your address is fixed. Georgia is the big exception (you choose a marketer), and several states offer optional supplier choice on top of the delivery utility.
