Five electric companies, two gas companies, one state

Each Ohio metro belongs to a different utility: AEP Ohio (Columbus and central Ohio), Duke Energy (Cincinnati), AES Ohio (Dayton), and FirstEnergy's companies across the north. Cleveland is the special case. Municipal Cleveland Public Power serves large parts of the city street-by-street alongside the Illuminating Company, so even neighbors can differ. Ohio has retail supply choice on top, but the wires company is fixed by address.

Gas is a two-company map: Columbia Gas of Ohio and Enbridge Gas Ohio (formerly Dominion East Ohio), with Duke handling gas in greater Cincinnati. Water is municipal. Columbus, Cleveland and Greater Cincinnati Water Works run three of the country's larger city systems.

Ohio utility questions, answered

Who is the electric company in Columbus?

Why do Cleveland neighbors have different electric companies?

Cleveland Public Power (municipal) and the Illuminating Company (FirstEnergy) both serve the city, street by street. Your exact address decides. Run the lookup.

Is my gas Columbia or Enbridge?

Columbia Gas of Ohio serves much of central/southern Ohio; Enbridge (formerly Dominion East Ohio) serves the northeast. Cincinnati-area gas is Duke. The lookup names yours.
