Dominion Energy's reach, and Rock Hill's own utility

Dominion Energy South Carolina (formerly SCE&G) delivered electricity at sampled addresses across Columbia, Charleston, North Charleston, Mount Pleasant and Summerville. Most of the state's population centers we've checked. Rock Hill, up near Charlotte and the North Carolina border, is the exception: it runs its own city-owned electric utility rather than buying from Dominion.

South Carolina doesn't run a retail electricity market, so there's no supplier to shop for. Whichever utility holds your address delivers the power directly. Along the coast, Charleston and North Charleston share the same water provider, the Charleston Water System, which simplifies that account for the Lowcountry cities; elsewhere, water coverage isn't consistently confident yet in our sampling.

South Carolina utility questions, answered

Who is my electric company in South Carolina. Is it always Dominion Energy?

Not quite. Dominion Energy South Carolina covers Columbia, Charleston, North Charleston, Mount Pleasant and Summerville in our sample, but Rock Hill runs its own municipal electric utility. Run the lookup to confirm which one holds your specific address.

Why doesn't Rock Hill use Dominion Energy?

Rock Hill operates its own city-owned electric utility rather than buying power from Dominion Energy South Carolina. A genuine exception to the pattern that covers most of the rest of the state's population centers in our sampling.

Is the water provider the same in Charleston and North Charleston?

Yes. Both cities draw from the Charleston Water System in our sampled data, which is unusual consistency for a service that's normally split city by city. Confirm with the lookup for your exact address, since coverage can still shift near city lines.

Does South Carolina have retail electric choice?

No. South Carolina doesn't run a deregulated electricity market. Whichever utility holds your address, Dominion Energy South Carolina or Rock Hill's municipal utility, is who you sign up with directly, with no competing supplier to shop for.
