Tennessee sits almost entirely in Tennessee Valley Authority territory, but TVA doesn't sell to you directly. It sells wholesale to local distributors, and which one serves you depends entirely on your city. Nashville runs its own utility, Nashville Electric Service. Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga each run their own as well. Memphis's shows up in our data as the City of Memphis (Memphis Light, Gas and Water), Knoxville's is the Knoxville Utilities Board, and Chattanooga's is EPB, the city's well-known municipal power utility.
None of these are competing for your business. Whichever local distributor covers your address is the only option, and there's no retail electricity market to shop in. Nashville is also the one city in our sample with confident water data, through Metro Water Services; the other cities' water setups vary by address and aren't yet confidently sampled.
It depends entirely on your city. Nashville Electric Service covers Nashville, the City of Memphis (Memphis Light, Gas and Water) covers Memphis, Knoxville Utilities Board covers Knoxville, and EPB covers Chattanooga. Each is a separate local distributor of TVA power. Run the lookup to confirm which one holds your specific address.
Tennessee doesn't have one statewide electric company. Tennessee Valley Authority sells power wholesale to local municipal distributors, and each city runs its own. Memphis's is the City of Memphis; Nashville's is Nashville Electric Service. They're both TVA-supplied but run as separate local utilities with separate bills.
In our data, EPB (Electric Power Board) is Chattanooga's electric utility. EPB is also known for its own municipal fiber internet service, though that's outside what our lookup checks. Confirm your address's exact electric setup with the lookup, and check EPB directly for other services.
Nashville is the one city in our sample with confident water data. Metro Water Services runs it there. For the other cities, water varies by address in ways we don't yet have confident data on, so check the lookup before assuming.
