Who Is My Water Company?

Water is the most local utility in America. Across 630,000+ address checks we've observed thousands of different systems: big city utilities, county districts, private companies and Texas MUDs. Your mailing city doesn't decide your water company; your address does. Enter it above and get the actual system that bills your home.

  • System JEA Common in our observations, but water is the most fragmented utility.
  • Shape City, district, or MUD Mailing city is a weak guide. Two nearby homes can bill to different systems.
  • Confirm Your exact address The lookup returns the water (and usually sewer) account that bills you.

Why water is different

Electricity has a few thousand utilities nationwide; water has tens of thousands of systems. Most cities run their own, but suburbs and unincorporated areas are served by special districts. Municipal utility districts (MUDs) around Houston, water authorities in the Northeast, county systems in the South and West. Two houses on the same street can genuinely have different water bills.

Sewer usually, but not always, follows water. The lookup returns both, named separately, so you know exactly which accounts to open before move-in.

Water questions, answered

What water company services my address?

Run the lookup. Water territories are the most fragmented of any utility, and mailing city is a poor guide. We name the exact system that bills your address.

Why can't I find my water company online?

Because thousands of small systems barely have a web presence. Districts, MUDs and rural systems among them. Our data comes from address-level checks, not directory listings, so small systems show up too.

What's a MUD?

A municipal utility district. A small local government that runs water (often sewer and trash too) for a neighborhood, common around Houston and other Texas metros. Your address can say one city while your water bill comes from a MUD.
